The Mablethorpe & Sutton Town Council covers a large area and manages a variety of community assets as listed below:
Railway Walk, Mablethorpe
Railway Walk follows the line of the former railway and includes the area known as Railway Turntable, which was revamped in 2011 through works carried out by the Dales Trust Fund. Further works were undertaken in this area in Spring 2012 to 2014 to incorporate some natural and wildlife friendly planting and the siting of the Railway Gate. The conservation walk begins at the rear of Station Road and meanders through to the Industrial Estate and the adjacent properties.
St Mary’s Conservation Area, Mablethorpe
St Mary’s Conservation Area is located on the site of the former brick works and landfill site. It has pathways, a wildlife pond and numerous species and varieties trees and bushes providing a wildlife and bird haven in the town. The area is cut sympathetically to encourage natural growth and is not managed as a formal park but as a natural nature oasis. There are seats and waste bins provided for users and the pond provides a natural bio diverse habitat for wildlife.
Cycleways
Several cycleways lead from St Mary’s Conservation Area and follow various woodland signposted routes with the principal route finishing on Stanley Avenue near the Library building.
CCTV
The Town Council owns and maintains several CCTV cameras in Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, images from which are monitored and recorded at the central control room, Skegness Police Station and provide an effective way to monitor and reduce crime within the parish.
Floral Displays
The Town Council supply and maintain various types of floral hanging baskets around Mablethorpe, Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe along with numerous concrete planters giving the area a vibrant and colourful focal point during the summer months. The planters also encourage wildlife and bee activity within the town centre areas. They are provided and planted every year, and local businesses are encouraged to participate by “purchasing” a basket for their premises.
Harris Boulevard / Seacroft Road Junction
The Town Council owns a small piece of land at the Harris Boulevard / Seacroft Road junction in Mablethorpe which was designed as a green seating area in partnership with the Neighbourhood Management Youth Forum. The Town Council is currently seeking future partnership working in this area from a community group for the 2015 season onwards.
Themed Tourism Signage
The Town Council replaced outdated themed information signs in 2012 and 2013. The ‘mermaid’ blue and white signs direct visitors and residents to places of interest within the parish.
The Boatshed, Mablethorpe
The Boatshed, a former lifeboat station, located on Victoria Road, Mablethorpe was managed and operated by the Boatshed Charity by a dedicated board of trustees and a management committee. The Boatshed is not open at the moment, but talks are in progress for the lease of the premises to be taken on by a local community interest company.
Meridale Centre, Sutton on Sea
The Meridale Centre is also a former lifeboat station located at the top of the high street, Sutton on Sea and is managed by trustees and a management committee. The centre has provided youth and community facilities in Sutton on Sea since 1965. A regular Councillor and Town Clerk surgery is held on Friday each week, where residents are encouraged to attend and discuss community issues.
Mablethorpe Community Hall
The Town Council acts as holding trustees of the Mablethorpe Community Hall, with the day to day management undertaken by the Community Hall Committee. This popular venue is available for public and private hire upon request from the committee.
Diana Memorial Garden, Sutton on Sea
This small garden was created on a road side verge in memory of Princess Diana and is situated at the end of Trusthorpe Road (A52) near Bohemia corner. The area is maintained by the Sutton on Sea Gardening Group in partnership working with the Town Council.
Miami Beach Hedge, Sutton on Sea
This hedge was planted in the 1980’s following the road re-alignment. The hedge is maintained by the Town Council and blooms in a variety of colours each spring and is home to a wide range of native birds and wildlife.
Branch Line Walk
Branch Line Walk follows the old railway from Crabtree Lane to Crawcroft Lane, Hannah; this well established conservation walk provides a natural habitat and shelter to a variety of wildlife, birds and insects, and is home to several Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board sponsored owl boxes.
Acre Gap, Sutton on Sea
Acre Gap Nature Reserve has been a conservation site for many years, and a working group, set up by the Town Council discusses and undertakes small projects within the site. Works undertaken in 2012 and 2013 by Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board created surface water storage lagoons to assist with flood resilience for the parish and created a biodiverse and effective wetland habitat with reed beds and aqua planting.
Trusthorpe Cemetery
As a burial authority, the Town Council manages Trusthorpe Cemetery, adjacent to St Peters Church. The garden of remembrance is now open for memorial plaques to be placed in memory of those not buried in the cemetery.
Allotments, Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe
The Town Council owns two allotment sites within the parish; a small site is located off Alford Road, Sutton on Sea is operated and managed by the Town Council. The larger site at Trusthorpe (adjacent to Trusthorpe Cemetery) is managed by the Allotment Committee.
Churchyard Maintenance
The Town Council maintains St Mary’s Churchyard in Mablethorpe and St Peters in Trusthorpe; they also provide an annual grant towards grounds maintenance to St Clements Church in Sutton on Sea.
Markets
The Town Council operate and manage the weekly market held on Thursday each week in Mablethorpe. The market has boasts over 35 stalls, selling a wide range of goods and produce. A Monday market is held from time to time in Sutton on Sea; and also speciality markets throughout the year in Mablethorpe. Find out more on the Markets page.
Outdoor Exercise Equipment, Mablethorpe
The Town Council owns and maintains two pieces of outdoor adult exercise equipment off Quebec Road (opposite The Beck public house) being a Twin-fly and a Rodeo Board.
Christmas Illuminations & Trees
East Lindsey District Council provide Christmas Illuminations in Mablethorpe and a switch on event takes place each year. The Town council provides three large Christmas trees within the parish (1 at Mablethorpe; Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe). The Town council also provide a Christmas tree scheme to businesses within the parish.
Notice Boards
The Town Council own and maintain three noticeboards within the parish which are located in: Mablethorpe at the Library & CAP; Trusthorpe Bus Shelter and Broadway car park, Sutton on Sea. An open community noticeboard has recently been installed at the High Street / Station Road junction in Mablethorpe in partnership with the Coastal Community Challenge (Big Local) and the Town council.
Bus Shelters
The Town Council own and manage four bus shelters which are located in: Victoria Road, Mablethorpe (outside the former Council offices); Broadway Sutton on Sea; Trusthorpe Triangle and at the entrance to Greenfield Caravan Site.
Beach Huts, Mablethorpe
From Easter 2017 the Town Council took over the management and letting of the beach huts at Central Promenade and Queen’s Park in Mablethorpe. In addition to some new huts, all of the existing huts were given a bright and cheery facelift for the years ahead. They can be hired by the half day, day, week or, indeed, the whole summer season. Public Toilets
The Town Council owns and operates three toilet blocks in the parish: North End (adjacent to the Seal Sanctuary); Bohemia (adjacent to Sutton Spring Caravan Park) and South Promenade (adjacent to Queens Park Flats). The toilet blocks are open from Easter to autumn each year. The old toilet block at Golf Road (opposite the Loewen Cinema) has now been repurposed as the Mablethorpe Men’s Shed project and all are welcome to attend and participate in their activities.
Coral Cafe, Mablethorpe
The Town Council owns Coral Cafe which forms part of the toilet block at South Promenade; the cafe is leased and operated by a private business person.
Trees, Sutton on Sea
Several trees located on Alford Road, Sutton on Sea (opposite Birch’s garage) are maintained by the Town Council.
